Recommended Read
The Hero Code is an influential book that should be foundational to anyone who wants to build virtuous habits. The book gives a code of conduct worthy of building a character around, and comes from an outstanding man who deserves great respect. Author William H. McRaven served as a four-star admiral before he began writing books of his experiences and lessons. His most notable achievement is organizing and overseeing the execution of Operation Neptunes’s Spear, the special ops raid that led to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. With that being said, McRaven successfully shares his four decades worth archive in a captivating and educational manner, keeping each part of his moral code independent but equal. Each chapter starts with a potent quote that matches the moral lesson, a feature more books should adapt. What’s unlike most any author is that McRaven has an amazing story from his own life that parallels the attribute of the specific chapter. Also, almost every chapter he introduces a new hero that shows just what it means to live by the hero code. This book is genuinely a must-read, as it reveals the kind of attitude that is lacking in today’s society. Although it may be difficult to match the accolades of McRaven or other idols, following the Hero Code is a great way to gain momentum in the right direction.
